"That’s what got us started on this," said Sue Laurentino, a sixth-grade teacher at the Helen I. Smith School. "They are excited to keep raising more money.”
Laurentino participated in a pancreatic cancer walk in Parsippany that included survivor Karen Kenny, a district nurse who raised more than $23,000 with her team.
Her daughter, Ally, created bracelets for the team.
Laurentino then got the idea to have classmates team up for a week during their lunches to make the purple or purple and white bands.
“They all have their rainbow looms going,” she said Wednesday. "They made 64 yesterday, and they are making more today.”
Another student is making signs to so that the group can advertise the sale at the school's Nov. 20 vendor night. They're welcoming any donation amount.
In fact, the boys and girls have been working on the project without a specific fundraising goal in mind.
“They are all making bracelets in here giggling away,” Laurentino said.
